Industrial Milling & Mixing Equipment for Kenya

POLYC MACHINE supplies CE-certified bead mills, basket mills, high speed dispersers, ribbon mixers and paint, ink and liquid fertiliser lines to Kenyan coatings, inks, food and agrochemical manufacturers, shipped to Mombasa with regional commissioning support.

POLYC MACHINE supplies CE-certified wet grinding, dispersion and mixing equipment to Kenyan manufacturers, including bead mills, basket mills, high-speed dispersers, ribbon mixers, filters and filling machines. With 25 years of application experience we support paint, ink, food and agrochemical plants from equipment selection through commissioning and spare-parts supply.

POLYC MACHINE has served the coatings, inks and adhesives industry of Kenya since 2001. Equipment runs in Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, Kisumu and Thika. Sea freight to Mombasa takes 18–22 days, with air freight in 5–7 days for urgent spares.

Kenyan Market Size and Key Industry Sectors

Kenya has a population of approximately 55 million and nominal gross domestic product of roughly USD 110 billion, making it the largest economy in East Africa and the industrial and logistics hub of the region. Manufacturing contributes roughly a tenth of output, concentrated in Nairobi and the Athi River industrial belt, with Mombasa handling almost all sea-borne cargo for the country and for landlocked neighbours including Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, eastern parts of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Sudan.

That corridor position is the defining commercial fact for equipment buyers. A machine delivered to Mombasa can serve not only the Kenyan market but, through the East African Community common external tariff and the regional road and rail network, a market of well over a hundred million people. Plants that intend to export regionally therefore size equipment for regional rather than purely domestic volume, which raises the importance of scalability and of a machine that can be duplicated identically at a second site.

The sectors driving demand for wet grinding and mixing equipment are decorative and industrial paints, printing inks for the packaging and label sector, food ingredients and beverages, cosmetics and personal care, and agrochemical formulation, where suspension concentrates and emulsifiable concentrates require reliable wet milling. Construction activity supports adhesives, tile adhesives and sealants, which are typically high-fill, high-viscosity products suited to planetary and double-shaft mixing rather than to high-speed dispersion.

Industrial supply is 400 V / 50 Hz three-phase. Import clearance requires a Pre-Export Verification of Conformity for regulated categories, obtained through the standards body before shipment; we supply the technical documentation needed for that route and coordinate with the importer of record. Typical orders combine a disc-type bead mill for finishing with a single-shaft disperser for pre-wetting, feeding a paint line or an ink line.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Questions About Ordering from Kenya

How long does delivery to Kenya take?

Sea freight from Shanghai to Mombasa typically takes 18 to 22 days, subject to sailing schedules and port congestion. Air freight for urgent spare parts takes 5 to 7 days. Inland road movement from Mombasa to Nairobi is usually one to two days, so a machine can be operational within roughly four weeks of release from the factory.

What payment terms are available?

Telegraphic transfer with a deposit and balance against shipment is standard. Irrevocable letters of credit at sight are accepted for larger turnkey lines. Terms are agreed during quotation and confirmed in the sales contract.

Is the equipment compliant with Kenyan standards?

Machines are CE certified and supplied with the full technical file. For regulated categories, import into Kenya requires a Pre-Export Verification of Conformity obtained before shipment; we supply the documentation needed for that route. The importer of record should confirm whether the specific machine category is in scope.

What voltage and frequency is the equipment built for?

The standard build is 400 V / 50 Hz three-phase, matching Kenyan industrial supply. Control panels can be specified for the local earthing arrangement, and we can supply a step-down configuration if a site is fed from a different distribution voltage.

How long is the warranty?

The standard warranty is 3 years from shipment or from commissioning, whichever the contract specifies, covering defects in materials and workmanship under normal operating conditions. Wear parts and damage from operation outside specified parameters are excluded, with exclusions stated in the contract.

Can you supply spare parts to Kenya?

Yes. We hold wear and spare parts for machines in service and dispatch worldwide within 24 hours of a confirmed order. Common items such as seals, grinding beads, filter elements and dispersing discs are stocked for faster delivery.

Do you provide installation and commissioning?

Engineers are available for on-site installation, commissioning and operator training. For single machines we can also support remote commissioning with a site technician, which is often the more economical route.

Do you have a local agent in Kenya?

We work with regional partners in East Africa and can introduce a partner covering your area during the quotation stage so that you have a local point of contact for service after handover.

Can you provide references from other African customers?

We can provide references and installation details on request during commercial discussion, subject to the confidentiality terms agreed with each customer. Application case studies are published on our case-studies page.

What documentation is provided with the equipment?

English manuals, the CE technical file, general arrangement and interface drawings, electrical schematics, material certificates and factory test reports are supplied as standard, together with the documents needed for the Pre-Export Verification of Conformity where applicable.

How do you handle after-sales service given the distance?

Remote diagnostics are the first step, supported by video inspection and data logging. Where physical attendance is needed we coordinate a service engineer or a trained local partner, and most common faults are resolved by replacing a stocked spare part.

What is the typical payback period for equipment in Kenya?

Payback depends on capacity utilisation, labour cost avoided and yield improvement rather than on a fixed figure. For plants exporting into the East African Community, the larger addressable market often improves utilisation and therefore payback relative to a domestic-only case.

Market Overview

Economic and Industrial Profile

Kenya has a population of approximately 55 million and nominal gross domestic product of roughly USD 110 billion, the largest in East Africa. Growth has typically run in the region of 5 percent annually in normal years. The structure of the economy is services-led, with agriculture still employing a large share of the workforce, while manufacturing contributes roughly a tenth of output and is the segment that determines demand for process equipment.

Industrial geography is concentrated. Nairobi and the Athi River belt to the south-east of the capital hold the majority of paint, ink, food, cosmetics and adhesives capacity. Mombasa on the coast is the deep-water port that handles the country's cargo and, through the Northern Corridor, that of Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Sudan. Nakuru, Kisumu, Thika and Eldoret hold secondary clusters serving the interior and the western region.

The coatings sector is dominated by decorative products, with industrial and wood finishes at the premium end. Printing ink production is tied to packaging and label printing for a consumer market that has grown steadily. Adhesives, tile adhesives and sealants follow construction activity, which has been one of the faster-growing manufacturing categories. Agrochemical formulation serves both the export horticulture sector and domestic smallholder agriculture, and is the segment with the most demanding corrosion and safety requirements.

For equipment buyers, the regional corridor is the key strategic consideration. Plants sized for domestic demand alone often find that the more valuable position is a modest capacity increase that opens the East African Community market, where the common external tariff and simplified rules of origin make cross-border supply practical.

Import Regulations

Pre-Export Verification and Customs

Kenya applies the East African Community Common External Tariff, which is based on the Harmonised System and applied uniformly across Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and South Sudan. Duty is assessed ad valorem against the customs value, and the schedule has three principal bands: capital goods and raw materials at the lowest rate, intermediate goods at a middle rate, and finished consumer goods at the highest. Industrial machinery under Chapter 84 generally falls in the capital goods band, which makes it one of the more favourable import categories. Because band eligibility depends on the exact classification, the importer of record should obtain a written opinion from a licensed customs broker before shipment.

Pre-Export Verification of Conformity is the requirement most likely to affect a machinery shipment. For regulated categories, a certificate must be obtained through the standards body before the goods leave the country of origin, and shipment without it will be held at destination. We supply the technical documentation, test reports and declarations needed for this route and coordinate with the importer of record on the application.

Documentation for a machinery consignment normally comprises a commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading or air waybill, certificate of origin, the CE declaration of conformity, electrical schematics and general arrangement drawings, plus the verification certificate where applicable. Arranging these before the goods leave the factory shortens clearance substantially.

Value added tax applies on import and is generally recoverable for registered taxpayers. Import declaration fees and the regional infrastructure levy also apply at the rates in force. We do not provide tax advice; the importer of record should confirm treatment with their own adviser.

Logistics & Shipping

Transport Modes and Ports

Sea freight is the standard mode for machinery from Shanghai to Kenya, and almost all cargo arrives through Mombasa. Full container load suits single machines and packaged equipment and is generally the more economical choice from roughly 15 cubic metres upward. Less-than-container-load suits smaller orders and spare parts at a longer transit because of consolidation and deconsolidation. Air freight is reserved for urgent spare parts and small instruments, typically 5 to 7 days.

Transit from Shanghai to Mombasa is typically 18 to 22 days subject to sailing schedules and port congestion. Inland movement to Nairobi is a further one to two days by road, and to the western region somewhat longer. For plants intending to serve the wider East African Community, the onward route from Mombasa through the Northern Corridor to Malaba and onward to Kampala and Kigali is the standard option.

Packaging is specified for the full journey. Machines are crated with desiccant and vapour barrier where electrical components require it, lifting points are marked on the crate, and the packing list identifies each case so that the receiving team can plan handling and the access route. Coastal humidity and dust on the inland roads are the practical environmental considerations, and we recommend specifying enclosure ratings accordingly during quotation.

Insurance is arranged on the CIF value at the buyer's option. We provide the invoice and packing details needed for the policy, but the insurance contract is between the buyer and the insurer.

Local Service & Support

Warranty, Training and Spare Parts

The standard warranty is 3 years from shipment or from commissioning, whichever the contract specifies. Coverage addresses defects in materials and workmanship under normal operating conditions and in accordance with the operating manual. It does not cover wear parts consumed in normal operation, damage arising from operation outside the specified parameters, damage from unsuitable raw materials, or the consequences of unauthorised repair. Exclusions are stated explicitly in the contract so that there is no ambiguity if a claim arises.

Commissioning covers mechanical alignment, electrical connection checks, guarding verification, a dry run and then a wet run with the customer's own material. Operator training is delivered on site during commissioning and covers start-up and shutdown sequences, grinding media loading, clearance setting, cleaning between grades, and the routine checks that prevent the most common failures. A signed commissioning report closes the handover.

Spare parts are the practical determinant of uptime. We hold wear parts and the components most likely to be needed within the first years of service, and dispatch worldwide within 24 hours of a confirmed order. Each machine is supplied with a recommended spare-parts list distinguishing items to hold locally from items that can be ordered on demand, so that the plant can size its own stock sensibly.

For plants that prefer a single local point of contact, we work with regional partners in East Africa and will introduce the partner covering your area during the quotation stage.
