Every POLYC disperser is built under an ISO 9001 quality management system, CE-marked where applicable, and backed by a 3-year warranty with free replacement parts, installation guidance and operator training. Choose from single-shaft, dual-shaft, hydraulic-lift and explosion-proof configurations for pilot batches through 10,000 L production tanks.
An industrial disperser is a high-speed rotor device that wets and breaks down agglomerates of pigments, fillers and additives into a liquid batch — the standard first premix stage before bead milling. POLYC builds single-shaft, dual-shaft, hydraulic-lift and explosion-proof configurations to match your viscosity, batch size and hazardous-area requirements.
What is an industrial disperser?
An industrial disperser is a high-speed rotor–stator device that pulls a liquid batch through a saw-tooth impeller at tip speeds of 20–30 m/s to break pigment and filler agglomerates and wet them into the vehicle. It is the workhorse premix stage in paint, ink, coatings and adhesive production, producing a uniform, deagglomerated batch before finer grinding. See our guide to pigment dispersion fundamentals for the underlying process science. POLYC MACHINE builds dispersers as fixed-tank and hydraulic-lift configurations for batch sizes from pilot scale to 10,000 L production tanks.
- Single-shaft high-speed disperser — one high-speed rotor for straightforward low-to-medium viscosity batches.
- Dual-shaft (double-shaft) disperser — adds a low-speed sweep agitator for higher viscosities, better heat removal and faster homogenisation. Our single vs dual-shaft comparison walks through the trade-offs.
- Hydraulic-lift disperser — raises and lowers the head between multiple tanks to disperse several batches with one drive.
- Explosion-proof disperser — certified motors and solvent-safe design for hazardous-area, solvent-based processes. Read our explosion-proof equipment guide for the design requirements.
- Basket mill — an enclosed dispersing basket that combines dispersing and fine milling in one vessel. Compare it with a bead mill in our basket mill vs bead mill guide.
A disperser and a bead mill solve different parts of the same process. The disperser wets and deagglomerates at high tip speed but stops at a coarse premix; the bead mill uses grinding media to reach fine and sub-micron particle sizes for gloss and transparency. In practice most lines use both — disperse first, then mill. Our bead mill selection guide covers when a mill is the right next step.
Selection depends on viscosity throughout the batch, batch size, target fineness, tank geometry and any hazardous-area requirements. Start with our high-speed disperser selection guide, then review the key specifications and impeller options. For high-viscosity pastes, see our complete guide to dispersers for high-viscosity materials and the high-viscosity mixer guide.

FAQ
Common questions about industrial dispersers
What is an industrial disperser used for?
An industrial disperser is used to wet out and break agglomerates of pigments, fillers and additives into a liquid resin or solvent batch. It prepares a uniform, deagglomerated premix that is then often passed to a bead mill for fine grinding. Typical uses include coatings, printing inks, adhesives, sealants, pigments, agrochemical suspensions and battery electrode slurries.
What is the difference between a single-shaft and a dual-shaft disperser?
A single-shaft high-speed disperser uses one high-speed rotor for dispersion. A dual-shaft (double-shaft) disperser adds a separate low-speed anchor or sweep agitator that keeps the batch moving, improves heat removal and handles higher viscosities. Dual-shaft designs are preferred for thicker batches and faster, more uniform mixing.
When should I use a disperser instead of a bead mill?
Use a high-speed disperser for pre-mixing, wetting and coarse dispersion of lower-viscosity batches, and use a bead mill when you need fine or sub-micron particle size, gloss or transparency. Many processes use both: disperse first, then mill. See our comparison guide for a detailed equipment-selection breakdown.
What batch sizes do POLYC industrial dispersers cover?
POLYC disperser configurations span pilot-scale batches through 10,000 L production tanks, with both fixed and hydraulic-lift designs and optional explosion-proof builds for solvent-based processes.
Do POLYC industrial dispersers support explosion-proof / hazardous-area requirements?
Yes. POLYC can specify suitable motors, grounding, sealed electrical cabinets and solvent-safe designs for hazardous-area, solvent-based dispersing. See our explosion-proof equipment guide for the typical design requirements.
What is the typical lead time for an industrial disperser?
Standard disperser configurations are typically ready for shipment within 30 days. Custom or explosion-proof builds are quoted after a process review, as lead time depends on materials, certifications and configuration.
