Choosing the Right Ink Production Line

How to Choose
1

Define the scope

List product families, annual output, batch sizes, formulation routes and packaging formats so the line is sized to real demand.

2

Size each stage

Size dispersion, milling, mixing, filtration, storage and filling from your production schedule, choosing 1-3 milling stages for the target fineness.

3

Confirm site and expansion

Plan utilities, solvent zoning, automation level, cleaning strategy, building constraints and future expansion so the line grows with your business.

Description

How it works

The POLYC Ink Production Line is a complete turnkey system that takes raw material dosing through high-shear dispersion, multi-stage bead milling, standardisation, filtration and finally filling, capping and labelling. POLYC supplies the whole line design, equipment manufacturing, installation and commissioning as one accountable package.

Semi-automatic and fully automatic configurations are sized to your annual tonnage, batch size, formulation route and packaging format. Modular stages serve both water-based and solvent-based formulations, with optional ceramic-lined mills for abrasion-sensitive products.

Central PLC controls with recipe management improve batch repeatability and production visibility, while layout, piping, utilities, solvent zoning and future expansion are engineered together so the line grows with your business.

Process Engineering

Working Principle

  1. Raw materials are dosed and premixed before high-speed dispersion and, where required, bead or basket milling.

  2. The batch is adjusted in mixing or let-down vessels, then filtered and transferred to filling equipment.

  3. Piping, controls, cooling, dust or vapor management, and cleaning systems connect the stages into one production process.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a POLYC ink production line and what does it include?

A POLYC ink production line is a complete turnkey system covering raw material dosing and pre-mixing, high-shear dispersion, multi-stage bead or basket milling, viscosity and shade standardisation, filtration, and integrated filling, capping and labelling. POLYC supplies the line design, equipment manufacturing, installation and commissioning as one accountable package.

What throughput and batch sizes can the line handle?

Line capacity is configurable from 500 to 20,000 tonnes per year, with per-vessel batch sizes from 200 to 10,000 L. The exact configuration depends on your product families, annual output and packaging formats.

What fineness can the milling section achieve?

The milling section reaches a fineness range from sub-micron to 15 micron, using one to three milling stages sized to the fineness target of each ink family, such as 3-8 micron for gravure and flexographic inks or sub-micron for inkjet and digital inks.

Can the line handle both water-based and solvent-based inks?

Yes. The stages are modular so the same platform serves water-based and solvent-based formulations. Optional ceramic-lined mills protect abrasion-sensitive products, and solvent zoning, vapour management and dust collection are engineered into the layout.

How is batch repeatability and quality controlled?

A central PLC system with recipe management controls dosing, dispersion, milling, standardisation and filling. This improves batch-to-batch repeatability, shade accuracy and production visibility across the whole line.

What filtration and filling options are included?

A filtration stage removes gels, skins and oversize particles before filling, and the integrated filling, capping and labelling station is sized to your packaging formats, from pails and drums to cartridges and small containers.

How do I size and select the right ink production line?

Start by defining product families, annual output, batch sizes, formulation routes and packaging. Then size dispersion, milling, mixing, filtration, storage and filling from your production schedule, and confirm utilities, solvent zoning, automation level, cleaning strategy, building constraints and future expansion.

Does POLYC provide installation, commissioning and future expansion support?

Yes. POLYC delivers the whole line design, equipment, installation and commissioning, and engineers layout, piping, utilities and future expansion together so the line can grow with your business.
