Process requirements and material challenges
Agrochemical suspension concentrates require stable particle-size control, reliable wetting and practical cleaning between formulations. Abrasive solids, viscosity variation and different active ingredients make it important to validate the process with the actual formulation rather than selecting equipment from nominal volume alone.
The process must also consider cooling, filtration, transfer and safe handling. A route that works at laboratory scale can become difficult to operate when batch sizes, cleaning intervals or production schedules increase.
Typical production route
Premix the active ingredient
Disperse solid active ingredients, wetting agents, dispersants and liquid phase until the feed is uniform enough for milling.
Batch or continuous grinding
A basket mill can suit flexible batch production; a bead mill can be reviewed for continuous operation and higher throughput. Trials establish the practical media and pass strategy.
Adjustment and finishing
After grinding, confirm viscosity, particle-size distribution, filtration requirement and storage stability before filling.
Recommended equipment
The production route should reflect the active ingredient, formulation additives and cleaning frequency. POLYC can review the relative fit of batch basket milling and bead-mill processing.
Basket Mill
PZM Basket Mill is a multi-functional submersible wet grinding mill for batch processing. It possesses both grinding and dispersing function. The optimized design for basket mill ensures that your materials pass through the high density dispersion zone within the milling chamber at a high frequency, with much higher grinding efficiency than traditional media milling systems. Our PZM basket mill requires less clean-up and a reduction in waste solvents. Premixing, dispersion, and grinding are all completed in a single vessel, helping reduce material transfer losses and cleaning time.

PZB pin type bead mill is the high energy-intensive wet grinding mill. The PZB pin type bead mill is suitable for a wide variety of products with different viscosity range, with this technology you will achieve the highest product qualities and fineness into the nanometer range, smallest grinding media 0.2mm in diameter applicable. And the pin type bead mill is designed for the highest product throughput rates and has a pin grinding system with extremely high grinding intensity.

| Decision point | What to confirm before quotation |
|---|---|
| Active ingredient | Hardness, feed size, abrasiveness, wettability and target particle-size distribution. |
| Batch pattern | Number of formulations, changeover frequency, batch volume and cleaning expectation. |
| Process controls | Cooling, filtration, transfer, dust control and any required hazardous-area design. |
| Acceptance testing | Fineness method, viscosity range, stability checks and sampling plan. |
Final capacity, equipment configuration, contact materials, seals, cooling duty and control scope should be confirmed against the actual formulation and operating conditions. This prevents selection by a headline parameter alone and gives the project team a defensible basis for pilot work or production scale-up.

Frequently asked questions
Why use a basket mill for agrochemical SC?
A basket mill combines dispersion and grinding in one batch vessel, which can suit flexible formulations and frequent changeovers.
When is a bead mill a better fit?
A bead mill can be evaluated where continuous operation, stable throughput or a dedicated production route is required.
What information is needed for a quotation?
Provide the active ingredient, batch or hourly capacity, target fineness, viscosity and cleaning or safety requirements.
