Tile Adhesive Production Equipment: Plough Shear and Ribbon Mixers

Tile adhesive is a low-dosage additive problem inside a powder-blending process: polymer, cellulose and setting modifiers appear at small percentages, and the mixer has to distribute them precisely without breaking down lightweight fillers.

Tile adhesive production depends less on blending speed than on dosing accuracy for the minor additives and on avoiding segregation between blending and packing.

POLYC MACHINE tile adhesive route: four stages from receiving and screening through accurate weighing, blending in plough shear or ribbon mixers and low-drop packing for tile adhesive.
POLYC MACHINE builds tile adhesive lines with tight tolerance on minor components. The route covers receiving and sand screening, separate weighing of bulk and polymer additives, blending in plough shear or ribbon mixers, and low-drop packing that prevents segregation.

Process route

The route looks like dry mortar, but the tolerance on minor components is tighter.

  1. Receiving and storage. Cement, silica sand and fillers are stored separately. Sand grading is part of the specification, so screening is not optional.
  2. Weighing major and minor components. Major fillers are weighed in bulk; polymers and cellulose are weighed on a separate small scale. This second scale determines whether the formula stays inside tolerance.
  3. Blending. Plough shear mixers handle short cycles and high fill levels; ribbon mixers give a gentler blend where lightweight fillers are present.
  4. Packing. Free-fall into the bag is where segregation appears. Buffer hoppers, low drop heights and correct packer settings protect the blend.

Specification notes

Why minor additives decide the line

A tile adhesive can be blended perfectly and still fail specification if the polymer dose is off. Dosing accuracy is the limiting factor, not mixer residence time.

Segregation after blending

Particle-size differences between sand and lightweight additives cause separation during free-fall. Reducing drop height and avoiding intermediate storage helps more than extra blending.

Frequently asked questions

What mixer is used for tile adhesive?

Plough shear mixers are common for short cycles and high fill levels; ribbon mixers suit gentler blending where lightweight fillers must survive intact.

Why does tile adhesive lose performance after packing?

Usually segregation during free-fall or inaccurate minor-additive dosing. Both are line design issues rather than mixing-time issues.

Can tile adhesive and dry mortar share a line?

Yes, with recipe changes and cleaning between products. Dosing accuracy for the smallest component is the deciding constraint.

Is sand drying necessary?

Yes. Residual moisture affects weighing, causes lumps and can swell the finished bag.
