Wall Putty Production Equipment: High-Viscosity Mixers and Complete Lines

Wall putty is a paste, not a powder blend: powder has to be wetted into a liquid, agglomerates broken down, and entrained air removed before filling. POLYC MACHINE supplies butterfly double shaft, planetary and triple shaft mixers, and complete putty and car putty lines.

Wall putty production is a wetting and dispersion process. High-viscosity mixers with wall scraping handle the paste, and vacuum deaeration removes the air that otherwise shows up as pinholes and short shelf life.

POLYC MACHINE wall putty route: four stages from liquid charging and powder wetting through high-viscosity dispersion, vacuum deaeration and hydraulic discharge to paste filling.
POLYC MACHINE builds wall putty lines where powder is charged into liquid first, then dispersed in a high-viscosity mixer with wall scraping, deaerated under vacuum to avoid pinholes, and discharged by hydraulic press or pump to filling.

Process route

The putty route differs from dry mortar at the very first step: powder enters a liquid, not an empty mixer.

  1. Liquid charging and powder wetting. Water, binder and additives are charged first, then powder is added under shear. Wetting speed controls how much dust is generated and how many lumps reach the dispersion stage.
  2. Dispersion. High-viscosity mixing with wall scraping distributes the powder and breaks soft agglomerates. Shear must be matched to viscosity, because over-shearing a filled paste can damage the binder system.
  3. Deaeration. Entrained air is removed under vacuum. Air left in the paste appears as pinholes, reduces density and shortens storage stability.
  4. Discharge and filling. Hydraulic press-out or pump discharge moves the paste to filling. Paste rheology, not pump pressure alone, decides whether transfer is stable.

Specification notes

Why butterfly double shaft

Two counter-rotating shafts combine a slow scraping agitator with a high-speed disperser, which handles high-viscosity paste without dead zones at the vessel wall.

When vacuum is required

Vacuum deaeration is used where surface finish, density or shelf life matter. For low-cost putty grades the vacuum stage is sometimes omitted, and the trade-off should be stated openly.

Frequently asked questions

Can wall putty be made in a dry powder mixer?

No. A powder blender cannot wet powder into a paste. Putty needs a high-viscosity mixer with wall scraping and, where quality demands it, vacuum deaeration.

Which mixer suits high-viscosity putty?

Butterfly double shaft mixers handle the widest range; planetary mixers suit smaller, tighter batches; triple shaft configurations add dispersion capacity. Selection follows viscosity and batch size.

Does vacuum really matter for putty?

It matters where surface finish, density or shelf life are specified. It removes entrained air that would otherwise show as pinholes after application.

Can one line produce putty and car putty?

Usually yes, with recipe changes and adequate cleaning. The equipment set is similar; the difference is mainly formula and final viscosity.
