Process requirements and material challenges

Battery slurry processing is governed by more than a target particle size. Conductive additives, active materials and binders must be distributed consistently while avoiding uncontrolled temperature rise, agglomerates and contamination. The material route also needs to remain repeatable when a laboratory formulation moves into pilot or production equipment.

A practical engineering review starts with powder handling, solids content, viscosity window, target fineness, media compatibility, cooling requirement and cleaning method. Those inputs determine whether premixing, high-shear dispersion, vacuum mixing and continuous wet grinding should operate as separate stages or as an integrated line.

Typical production route

Premixing and wet-out

Meter powders and liquids in a controlled sequence, then establish a uniform premix before fine grinding. The aim is to reduce dry pockets and large agglomerates without assuming that one mixer setting fits every formulation.

Wet grinding and recirculation

A pin-type bead mill can be evaluated for the required particle-size distribution, throughput and temperature control. Media size, filling level, flow rate and pass strategy are confirmed through material trials.

Deaeration and transfer

Vacuum mixing or deaeration can be considered when entrained air affects coating quality or density consistency. Closed transfer, filtration and cleaning requirements should be defined with the production team.

Planetary Mixer

The planetary mixer is specially for material with high viscosity up to 1,500,000 cP It is a highly efficient, multi-purpose equipment integrating reaction, mixing and dispersion; The stirring paddle in the kettle orbits and rotates simultaneously, so that the material flows up and down and around, so as to achieve the mixing effect in a very short time, there is no dead angle in the mixing process and the effect is more than ten times that of the ordinary mixer. Actual mixing performance depends on the formulation, fill level, tool geometry, and validated process settings.
